November 2011

Holiday Drive Launch

Holiday Drive 2011

Our Holiday Drive officially launches today! We’ve extended the drive by over a week and are looking to raise 1.2 million dollars and 1.2 million pounds of food by January 3 to help make up for the shortfall from not meeting our Fall Drive goals.

You can help by joining our Holiday Challenge online and helping to fundraise. Or, run a food drive at your work, school or community group. Having a holiday party? Why not ask people to bring one of our most-needed food items with them to donate? If you’re out grocery shopping, don’t forget to pick up a few extra cans or even a bag of food and drop it off at your local fire hall. Starting on November 25th, you can drop off donations at your local Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, nofrills or valu-mart.

Give the gift of hope today – help provide food for the winter months to those who need it most.

Volunteers Needed for TTC Days

Help raise funds on December 8 and 9 with the TTC!

We need enthusiastic volunteers who aren’t afraid to ask people for donations. Remember, the number one reason people don’t donate is because they are not asked. There are two shifts available on both days – one is from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the other is 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We’ll be at several TTC stations throughout Toronto, so location is flexible!

For more information or to sign up to volunteer, please contact Joelle at joelle@dailybread.ca. Don’t forget to include your name and contact information.

The CMT Gift of Giving Holiday Special!

DSC_0577-Sm.jpg

Country Music Television’s holiday special, CMT's Gift of Giving, will be showing at various times throughout December on CMT, as well as YTV and OWN. Hosted by George Canyon, with special guests including Chantal Kreviazuk, Barenaked Ladies, Great Big Sea and Jimmy Rankin, this musical special will also be helping to raise awareness about food banks and hunger.

Daily Bread was lucky enough to have George Canyon onsite at our food bank and warehouse in early November, learning more about how hunger is affecting families and what Daily Bread is doing about it. Of course, he brought some television cameras along so you can see for yourself some of the great work staff and volunteers are doing on Country Music Television starting December 1st at 8 p.m.

The Gift of Giving CD includes the performers mentioned above, as well as holiday-themed tracks from performers such as Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker. Proceeds from the sale of this CD will benefit food banks across Canada.
